Meetings are often considered a necessary evil. This class will show how to decide which meeting are really necessary, and how to make them productive, not evil. The class starts by examining the costs associated with holding a meeting, and some alternatives that may get the job done more efficiently. Participants will then learn how to make the meetings that are needed much more efficient and productive.
A good meeting starts with a clear goal. We examine the various classes of goal and the types of meetings that will serve each. The class then moves on to choosing the right participants and getting them to attend. Tools and techniques for keeping the meeting moving and productive are presented, along with ways for dealing with all of the unexpected and off-topic things that often come up.
The class combines lecture, group discussion and participatory exercises. Real-world examples are presented and practical application is emphasized. Class notes are provided to increase retention and application once participants return to the workplace.
